Hello all,
If you have a model train, and you have made it for train simulator, post a shot of both! I like to compare.
Here is a Guilford engine of mine. I dont know what Athearn was thinking, the colors are way off ohmy.gif ! But I like it anyways tongue.gif . She's my girl.
Well, that emans colors on my engine is inaccurate with colors laugh.gif laugh.gif .

The model... (Photo by Steve Amorick). Well, we both paid for it, so it is not 100% mine rolleyes.gif . Colors are even darker without the flash unsure.gif ohmy.gif !

I have some too, but I'll post them later.

Colors are indeed way off.
Why do you think Union Pacific attacked the model railroad company?
CATMAN1
lol.
True.
I think I know where they got the colors...

let's just put it this way. I never ran guilford ho models. Why? when I was into model railroading, not one single company did a GRS model. Now all of a sudden they are. Doesn't bother me, won't get me back into model railroading.

I grew up with Santa Fe Railway, and Union Pacific trainsets, which why now I run BNSF and UP engines. Now only do they look better, with the right colors and all, but I just prefer six axle power and long trains when it comes to model railroading. I like desert railroading too when it comes to MRR.

With MSTS, well you know what I prefer. And in Real life, I prefer the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railway.

Admin Edit: Watch the attitude Shawn.....

I am not comparing, but rather showing the models I own. I have 3 others, UP D9-44CW, BNSF D9-44CW, and a GRS SD40 that I never completed kitbashing on.

Here is one of mine.... N&W A-Tank! As you can see, both require proper painting, but I think the MSTS version turned out rather well.

Mykel,

I am sitting here and the only thing that comes to mind for me is a simple word: "Wow!"

I've been a fan of 1218 since I was 8 (~16 years ago). No other locomotive has impressed me as much as a N&W Class A. Such a fine combination of beauty, size and power.

May I ask.. what scale is you model railroad? I love the Gran Canyon pic ya have of it. biggrin.gif

Herb are you a member of that Bay Area modelers club or whatever the name is? I remember seeing an article about it in MR a few years back and that looks strikingly familiar.

It is HO and it is the club layout of the La Mesa Model Railroad Club, within the San Diego Model Railroad Museum building in Balboa Park, San Diego. One of the finest model railroad exhibits in the nation.

There is also the San Diego Model Railroad Club, the San Diego N Scale Society (both of whom model Carizzo Gorge in HO and N scales, respectively). There is a 3-rail O tinplate layout there also as well as the San Diego Club's O scale layout.

Quite a complex but the La Mesa Club is the shining star, IMHO. They are modeling Bakersfield to Mojave complete with a fully functioning CTC system and as close to scale in size and scope as possible. The stretch from Ilmon to Cliff is fully sceniced and the Rowen through Marcel area, including Tehachapi Loop is finished for trackwork and awaiting scenery. There is about 10 feet of separation in elevation between Bakersfield yard and Walong. Just an incredible layout.

None of the equipment seen here is mine, I was just privileged to watch it run! tongue.gif So I cheated. Not really my models but since we were running comparisons of model vs. simulator and I was running this thread Grand Canyon on Tehachapi I thought it might play. wink.gif

Some HO model companies had decent plastic engines, but if ya could afford it, the best bet IMHO was to buy brass and do your own painting (Using a decent set of decals).

Here's one of HO scale engines I modified, detailed, painted and weathered myself. The picture is bad (the colors came out much brighter than real life) but the engine is fairly good.

This is Burlington Northern 6261. She is the only SD38-2 on the BNSF roster that hasn't been rebuilt into something else. The model is Kato, with details west and utah paific detail parts. The paint is a mix of several different brands (waterbase) and the weathering is oil based paint aplied with a dry brush and an air brush.

Here's a little data on the real engine...

Type-----------------SD38-2
Engine---------------16 cyl. EMD 645E Deisel w/ roots blower
Horespower---------2000
Fuel capacity--------3,200 US Gallons
Generator-----------AR10
Tracton Motors------D77
Wheel Arangment--C-C
Length---------------68 feet 10 inches
Operating Weight---195,500 US Tons
Builders Number----786187-2
Build Date-----------June 1979
other-----------------Currently equiped for remote control yard service

And here's a link to a picture of the real 6261 http://archive.trainpix.com/BN/EMDORIG/SD38-2/6261.HTM

What do ya think?

WOW, that's one heavy locomotive. Does she require 1500lb rail to run on? All kidding aside, she looks beautiful. wink.gif
