Kuju put up some pics of a Black 5 (I only see one myself *snicker* get it... it's a joke... never mind ) and this is the most tremendous looking texture job of a locomotive I've ever seen.
kuju's black 5Ain't nobody gonna touch that!
And in the one pic, look at the engine in the background. Those are some awesome pics folk.
If I don't mind saying so myself.
Kudos Kuju

Unreal, the detail is outstanding, just look at the side-rods and the casting marks! What makes me more curious though is that in the main picture the loco appears to be photo-skinned but in the detail shots from (G-Max???) the loco is perfectly textured and not photo-realistic, what gives with that?
Now for the nitpik stuff,

the loco is riding on the flanges and not on the tires and the wheelsets appear a bit wide for the track, a bit more tweaking required, but overall absolutely stunning.

Beeeggg, beeeeeg textures as well as a High poly model....mostly the textures though (2048x2048 if not bigger) and the fact that the new kuju sim allows bump mapping, light reflection highlight effects and so on.(this is merely a guess, but seems reasonable)
Impressive non-the-less, but hardly unatainable for some of today's better loco and scenery designers given the proper tools and such.
Just my opinion......but I still look forward to this new kuju sim as long as it can provide decent performance with such high-brow in-game models.

"Ain't nobody gonna touch that!"
Right you are, Rich. It's virtual... it only exists in cyberland.
Now, having been a smarty pants, I'm gonna' say something... (ahem)...
I've been of the opinion for a looong time, overall, the KUJU Krew did a bang-up job on this sim. For a first effort, and one that was abandoned by MS fairly quickly, it is an awesome piece of work that we're STILL tweaking and enjoying.
I don't mind at all that it happens to appear that KUJU is are creating the most promising sim on the horizon.
Plus, can't recall where I heard it, but I'm under the understanding that our MSTS content will be importable into their new one? Of course, who would want to if the contrast between what we have now and what that appears to be on the horizon has such disparity?
Anyrate... if it is a great sim, I just hope KUJU will eventually expand to the US market.

Lookie here...
"The inclusion of the Black 5 means that content creators looking to reproduce steam routes using our route editor, have a wide choice of routes available to them as the Black 5 was used in so many locations around the country."
"As we haven't got the Somerset and Dorset route fully created the Black 5 has been placed in the same environment as our earlier images. Shots of the Black 5 on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway will be available at a later date." {underline mine}
I didn't think to read the below paragraphs my first time around. But... using our route editor???? The spectulation before was since the game was being promoted through EA there wouldn't be much in the way of this.
Somerset and Dorest route fully created.... they are that far along?
... placed in the same environment as our earlier images ... love Kuju or not but the 6th image is by far one of the most atmospheric pics I've seen. Simply gorgeous. The whole scene is rendered very nicely. It's not a sim shot but from what it sounds like, things are coming along.
Bill's comment made me think of something. When you go to TA's site they got some gorgeous pictures of NS equipment. Simply fantastic. Bill makes the point we can do that kind of graphic today. Sure we can. I believe Canton is a good example of that. Canton isn't artsy like the Kuju rendered pic, but there is a clarity to it you don't see much elsewhere. I think the thing you take from a rendered scene like that is we hope for the hoopla there's a real infrastructure there, in the sim that is, that will allow a scene to take on that kind of atmosphere. If you ever played the Thief series, especially 2 and 3, you'll know what I mean. But how that translates into the world of railroading, that's a good question.
Even with Wayne Campbell's L&PS, you're still flying by at 20 to 30mph and it's very difficult to feel the atmoshere. But maybe it's all not about when your driving around the tracks. Maybe it's when your picture taking like Tim or Paul is when the texturing makes a difference. Awhile back Rod easily spawned a new interest in virtual railroad photography. Like Model Railroading, Virtual Railroading can easily be seen as a conglomeration of hobbies. So hopefully it's the sim infrastructure along with bigger textures and bump mapping we hope will elevate our hobby to a higher realism and more authentic surroundings.
