Union Pacific steam locomotive 3985 to visit Portola Railroad Museum

Historic Union Pacific steam locomotive 3985 will be making a west coast
visit. She is scheduled to arrive at the Portola Railroad Museum during
the afternoon of Tuesday, August 30. The locomotive will be on public
display at the Museum through Thursday, September 1. Admission to the
museum to view the locomotive will be FREE, although donations are
always welcome. The museum will be open from 10 AM - 5 PM both days.
This is a rare opportunity to get a close-up view of the largest steam
locomotive operating in the world today. UP 3985 is a Challenger-type
locomotive, built in 1943 and used in heavy freight service across the
Union Pacific system. Restored in the 1980's, the locomotive is
currently a featured part of the Union Pacific's historic locomotive
fleet.

This will be the first trip by the 3985 to the west coast in 6 years.
Don't miss this rare opportunity.

Hope you got your camera ready! Sadly when I was out west, I did not get to see either of the UP engines and missed out on AT&SF 3751. sad.gif Fortunately I did get to see SP 4449 and SP&S 700, which was very nice! Helped to fill in the void left by NS shutting down its steam program. If you do get a chance to see her, please post some pictures!
