Hi Dennis,

You did great work with RS-18 v.2...thanks. This morning with 3 Rs 18 units and 19 wagons,in Marias pass, I had a problem with brakes.I let some wagon in a yard and when I wanted to get back to attach the left wagon on the main, I had no brakes on my lead. I tried again and it was the same. Got any idea of what is wrong ?

P.S Sorry for my bad english, I' m a french Canadian,and I use the words I got!

Thanks!
Pierre

Hi Pierre,

I tried it, 3 x RS18 + 19 cars, on the on the Maria Pass, but I didn't found the problem you're talking about. Could you please tell me on what part of the Maria Pass you were doing this and what cars you were using.

Did you have enough air to apply the brakes and was the wheelslip control light in the cabin warning you for wheelslip?

PS: I'm Dutch, so you will never hear me about someones english smile.gif

Dennis

Hi again Dennis!

My consist is CN 3712 x 2 + CP8769 + USA2fulllogger car x 18 + SP caboose.

Try this: At West of Cutbank(explore route). When the activity open, just leave your freght there(dont move). With your 3 RS18 go to the first bridge and stop. With reverse, throtle 0% and sander on. Release the brakes and let it go backward. When it comes to 20mph put emrgency brakes. With the timer it takes 51 seconds from 20mph to 0mph. Or it is not very efficient or I demand too much. Waiting for the answer.

Will check it out smile.gif

Just to inform you Dennis, with the same consist and the same test, but using 3 X MSTS gp38 instead of rs 18, it took 6 seconds for the locos to stop with emergency brakes from 20 mph to 0 mph.

I am doing recalculations...

The default MSTS gp38 isn't realistic. Most modern passenger trains do 2 to 2.5 mph/sec with emergency brakes and sometimes 1 mph/sec for modern freight trains. Older frieghts are much worse smile.gif

But with the test I did, I mean, I only have the 3 locos when I apply the brakes, I dont have the load. Is it possible that Msts still calculate the total weight of the complete train (in that case) even when I leave the load ?

With another consist (2 xCP rs18 + 6 freight cars) in another activity the brakes works well and its less long to stop from 50 mph to 0 mph with the emergency brakes then the 3 locos only in the other activity.

But dont spend to much time on that Dennis use this as informations and if someone else has the same problem someday you'll see if there is something to do with this or not. I'm not waiting for that smile.gif

I'm on it and I'll post when I have it right smile.gif

Ok I did the test the same way like you did. I used an .eng file marc has sent me to compare the results. This second .eng file I used to compare was made by Bob and he is a specialist with this.

Now both engines with the same setup like you discribe take the same amount of time. Only thing is, I get it to stop in 36 secs from 20 to 0 mph.

Reverser in reverse, let her roll till 20 mph, push the sanding button, then backspace for the emergency brakes.

Since both .eng files gave me almost the same results (Bob his .eng took 2 secs longer to stop), I think it's correct.

In the meanwhile I would like to thank Bob (BB) smile.gif

I'm open for any comment smile.gif

Take care,

Dennis
