Hi there,
I downloaded an F7-A unit file from Train-Sim.com that was made by Tim Kent. In his readme note, this is what he has to say.
AS REQUESTED BY 3DTRAINS.COM I HAVE REMOVED THE .S FILE FROM THIS ZIP.....YOU MUST GET THIS FROM YOUR ORIGINAL F7DEMO DOWNLOAD.....PUT IT INTO THE NEW FOLDER YOU'VE CREATED FOR THIS VIA FILE...THEN RENAME THE .S FILE EXACTLY AS SHOWN BELOW
VIA_F7
Now, where do I get this F7DEMO? I ordered both the CNR Pro Series and the RS18 files. When I ordered the Pro Series, as much as I'm happy with it, I wanted to get the files needed to run the VIA Rail F7-A unit. The VIA Rail F-B unit is perfect. Plz help me. Thanx....

Sorry, but the v1.0 (and v1.35/2.0) files have been removed and are no-longer supported. Current set is v3.0, and is miles ahead of our previous sets. You could however, try one of the v2.0 sets still in the train-sim.com file library and apply the VIA skin. Be prepared to rename some of the images if needed, but it should work fine.
Someone at train-sim.com's forums is making a new VIA set based on our v3.0 units (
VIA Painted v3.0 Model).

Cheers!

Thanks Marc, I will go now to look for that v2.0 file. I noticed that someone else is making one, it really looks good too, he had like 3 or 4 pics of it. I will be looking forward to it as well. I will go to it now and see if it works now. Um, if I cannot find it, would I be able to use the CNR Pro Set files and just change them or will they not work for the VIA F7-A Unit?

Just one more thing, when you say use one of the v2.0 and reskin, do you mean by downloading someone else's reskin and use it? I download the milw119c.zip file that is using a repaint of the Demo EMD F7 (v2.0b). Plz bear with me as I am fairly new to the MSTS Train Sim.... Now if that isn't the one you are thinking of, plz let me know what the name of the file that you're speaking of on the train-sim.com site. Thanx....

Hi Marc, sorry to bother you again. I must not be doing something right. I found the file you were talking about and I downloaded it. When I tried to go and use the .s file then go into the editor, it is still showing my VIA as Santa Fe. I copied all files over but I must be doing something wrong. It is quite frustrating like I must be getting to you. I'm really sorry.

Now you understand why we're not supporting the older files - pure headache at times.

All you need are the models, and then take the VIA skins you do have and apply them the the ACE files that came with the model you downloaded. To change the internal name of the locomotive, you'll have to edit the ENG file in Wordpad.
Cheers!

he he, you are most right Marc, headache for sure, now, I did finally get it to take the proper skins, but then it said there was a f7aeng.sms file missing, I found that, but now, it is saying...
Failed to create Cab view.
I have the 3D F7A 3DTrains_FUnit.cvf file in my cab folder but for some reason it just isn't being able to do it. Can you give me some input there at all??? It won't let me play the activity without it, in fact, it shuts down the whole game. Thanx....

Check that the that the information/images being called out from the CVF file are valid. It may be looking for something you don't have.
Cheers!

Hi Marc, I did all that and well, it just doesn't seem to be doing the trick. I'm almost to the point of giving up now. I'm a real fan of VIA Rail and so I am gettin super frustrated, oh well. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it turns out with the v3.0 with that fellow making his VIA Rail F7A so then maybe I'll get somewhere then....

Hi Marc,
How's it going? I hope all is going well with you. I was just wondering, do you think that just possibly the v3.0 NYC F-Unit might work if I downloaded the demo then just used the cabviews from it???
