Full Version: Frisco covered hoppers

I am a very happy StL&NA owner! I will admit that I hardly ever run proto-typical trains on the old line. I am a Frisco fan, and have been since the mid sixties. I always run late 60-80 Frisco equipment. Does the later A & O version add trackage, yards, etc? Now, I do have a request, I am probably going to order the new route, but could you paint up some of the rolling stock for the Frisco, especialy the covered hoppers? I have seen thousands of Frisco covered hoppers in years past, but none in train sim. Most of the hoppers were just grey and lettered "Frisco". There were a few other paint schemes, grey would be good. After all, the A & O would interchange lot of loads with the Frisco, the main line runs through Seligman.

Yes it does have some Frisco rolling stock, but for engines I think that is in the future for Andre(Hoping tongue.gif ) Yes it hads more modern stuff, and the engines are worth it anyways, the sounds and cabviews also the best I have seen.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Thanks Jonathan! I have seen lot's of pix of the route and rolling stock, but I didn't see Frisco. That was a surprise, knowing Andres past Frisco association. I see by the maps that the route has been extended and industries added.

Thanks

Unfortunally the Frisco was gone during the time frame Andre is using for the A&O. But I can say that the covered hopper isn't the only Frisco equipment on the A&O. There is a hopper running around on the system...but I can't say where you'll run into it. That would ruin the fun. biggrin.gif

Yes, the Frisco joined the BN in late 1980, but what the hey, in the sim the Frisco lives on. I'll check the earlier post for rolling stock. What I have seen is outstanding. The StL&NA has very nice scenery, and rolling stock. I like it all, but I run diesel on the StL&NA 95% of the time.

Sounds like you really need to get ahold of the A&O. The 251 powered Alcos sounds great. My only compaint is there isn't enough time in a day to get to my chores & work the A&O. dry.gif

Zack - I think you've got that backwards. Shouldn't it be "not enough time to work the A&O and then get my chores done"? tongue.gif

Yep, I have ordered the A&O. I am always looking for Frisco rolling stock. As you know, there are a lot of A&O pictures out there, some that look real. Sure makes me want to run the route in my sim.

You will not regret it.

It is freakin' OUTSTANDING.

Gaetan's Alcos are Amazing, especially from a bit of distance. In real tight closeups, I find that they do not look as "focused" or something, because of the way it was textured. However, that very same texturing technique gives it an amazingly realistic appearance from a bit of a distance. It is truly brilliant. View 4 runbys with these units could nearly pass as video images.

The sounds are probably the single thing that impressed me the most. Most units have a sound, that even if realistic, just sounds like a noisy train. These alcos have a hypnotic rhythm thing about them. There is a beat, and you will find yourself messing with the throttle just to sort of interact with that beat. Don't Lie, you ALL know what I am talking about. It is really really cool. I was running them really loud the other night, and my nephew strolled in and thought I was listening to some new band laugh.gif

As for the route. If you closed your eyes and tried to imagine the most unique route layout, for that time period and location, you would be imagining the A&O. Every inch was been pefectly sceniced and all sorts of neat bridges and other items are placed with attention to what it adds to the overall "feel" and "look" of the route. There are no unnecessary plantings or objects just taking up space and slowing things down. Each and every object has a place and purpose to the overall appearance in the route.

Andre is a very special talent. I believe he now walks among the Giants of route design with folks like Rich Garber, etc. ( That is about as high of praise as can be bestowed upon a route designer. )

Likewise, Gaetan has joined Marc Nelson, Chip and the Dekosoft Crew, Scott at Diesels West, Danny Beck, Dick Cowen, etc. as one of the top modelers and train creators in the Biz. (MY apologies to anyone not on this list who should be) That again is about as high of praise as can be given to someone as well.

In A&O, you get some of the finest work both of these folks has put out. How can you possibly go wrong?

Unless you were looking for a flight sim expansion Hehehe.

Enjoy it,

Very well said MFOS - It would be good if a few more would realise that and join the V Scale club!

If anyone is a member of The Mop House forum, Jim is repainting 12 or so covered hoppers in Frisco paint. He has repainted some SD45s, and Frank has repainted several Red/White and Black/Gold F units.
Really some nice repaints.

Oh no, in my house...I've got it correct the way I've got it down. I learned real quick after getting married several years ago. If mom ain't happy...ain't no one going to be happy. Get a couple of chores done she's happy and I get to work as a crewman on the A&O. Now getting the year off the computer...that is another story laugh.gif
