Hi

Some questions about the StL&NA Rolling stock, and the Eureka cars.

I've downloaded the Eureka boxcars from Train Sim, and want to include them in activities. Liking the physics of default NA Rolling stock a lot, I printed of the .wag files to compare (and possibly alter the Eureka values to match). I'm confused about a number of settings

The Eureka cars have handbrakes. Those supplied with NA also seem to be modelled with handbrakes but don't use them. Should I delete references to handbrakes in the Eureka cars? (For that matter when were handbrakes introduced?)

There are also differences in some of the wag values. Are the differences significant?

NA_XMIMS_LD.WAG

Coupling (
Type ( Automatic )
Spring (
Stiffness ( 5e6N/m 0 )
Damping ( 1e6N/m/s 0)
Break ( 2e7N 0 )
r0 ( 15cm 1e9 )
)
Velocity ( 0.1m/s )
)

EUREKA

Coupling (
Type ( Automatic )
Spring (
Stiffness ( 2e7N/m 0 )
Damping ( 0.2e7N/m/s 0 )
Break ( 1e7N 0 )
r0 ( 0.1 1e9 )
)
CouplingHasRigidConnection ()
)

Should I replace the Coupling section of the Eureka cars? (My guess would be yes)

Also derail settings

NA_XMIMS_LD.WAG
DerailRailForce ( 2.5*68t )
DerailBufferForce ( 200kN )
EUREKA
DerailRailForce ( 2.5*27t )
DerailBufferForce ( 400kN

Are the differences due to the Eureka cars being in fact larger (18t as opposed to 14t unladen?)... My guess is it doesn't matter as I don't intend derailing anything smile.gif

Also Braking settings

NA_XMIMS_LD.WAG
EmergencyResCapacity( 4 )
EmergencyResChargingRate( 1 )
EUREKA
EmergencyResCapacity( 7 )
EmergencyResChargingRate( 5 )

Again should I use the default NA values (My guess is yes)

Finally wanting to set up loaded and unloaded versions of the Eureka cars, I noticed that the Friction settings are identical for both the loaded & unloaded versions of the default NA_XMIMS boxcar. Would these not be different?

Not picking holes. Just want the Eureka cars to behave in a compatible way with the default rolling stock. I really like the NA physics.

I'll be using the default stock for some time to come... Love to get the new stock but unfortunately I can't buy everything... even though I'd like to... sad.gif

Frascati,

I guess when Mike, with the original ESR boxcar, then I with the 6 pack (as it were) reskinned, or repainted, parts of Wayne Campbell's boxcar,we were just really full of enthusiasm for the visual aspect of Andre's fantastic new route.

Physics wasn't too high on the agenda, I think we were just taken with the fantastic modelling that Wayne had done.

If you get it sorted, perhaps you could arrange to upload the boxcars with the new physics - I would certainly like some that acted like the others - and I have to say that the ESR cars (especially #5) are my favourites - but then I would say that!

My only caveat is that the new stock pack is coming out shortly, and it might be better to wait for those, as I guess the physics on those might be different again (although you can trust Andre to make sure they are spot on!).

Go for it

Hi Frascati:

"Back when", the handbrakes were pulled from the default StLNA stock as a last ditch effort to gain stability when using the front coupler.

I have since learned more about eng/wag files, and handbrakes will be included in the upcoming StLNA Pack.

Prototypically, the cars SHOULD have handbrakes.
