Hi All,

I'm excited about the activities we can develop for Andre's A&O Sub. In order to make sure I do justice to the route, I made the below chart and ask that you all review it and tell where I got it wrong. Please let me know where you think I got the industry and what cars should service those industries wrong and suggest corrections. Can't wait to get these activities built and uploaded!!!!

Thanks much for your help.

On the Berryville branch listing.... the additives would mostly come by way of tank car. Andre modeled that mill after the one here in Ft. Smith. And many moons ago that mill used to produce both cow and chicken feed. The mill is now a total chicken feed mill now (read no cow feed production). The additives they were getting were a molasses type of sweetner to add to the cow feed. Since they don't produce cow feed any long...they don't get the tank cars. I guess chickens don't have a sweet tooth laugh.gif Oh, wait...they don't even have teeth, that explains why they don't have a sweet tooth.blush.gif

And on the Eureka Springs branch. Wouldn't the ice be moving my way of a mechanical refer? Or maybe an insulated boxcar. I never have talked to Andre about that industry...maybe it's a cold storage warehouse now and not an actual ice production plant. I'm sure coonskin will weigh in here shortly and help with that detail.

Hope it's ok if I jump in here. This guy in Germany http://www.didi2004.de/include.php?path=start.php has done a LOT of animated scenery items. The latest two are sawmills. One with animated crane moving logs and the other with an animated fork truck. The animation is a little crude, thanks to MSTS graphics, but quite presentable from a distance. Registration on his site needed for downloads and is completely free. smile.gif
Maybe these would look at home on the route?

Henri,

I am sorry that it has taken so long to get to this post, been tied up with a number of other things. The list you did looks good and as far as I can see, and from what I am familiar with each of those industry types, seems to be pretty close, if not right on. I do know that it will be very helpful in deciding who gets what.

Hi Henry:

Looks like your list is pretty comprehensive.

One minor item would be naming convention, the lumber would be coming in/loaded onto flats (F) or bulkheads (FB) and not log cars. There is a significant difference between the cars.

Noticed the question mark by the "Molasses" spot. I can fill in a detail there: This industry is modeled after one locally that produces a supplemented "sweet feed" for cattle. It has the unimaginative name "Animal Feed Suppliment Company". The molasses is used as an additive to be cooked into the feed bran. (The place smells great on a cold, snappy morning... like hot molasses waitin' to be spread onto a biscuit!) The finished product is shipped in metal half-drums. The prototype AFS no longer uses rail service, but I decided to model a version that still uses it. Below you will see a picture of the prototype.

Also, as I recall, inbound additives for feed production could be such things as corn syrup, fish oil, protein oil, and such. That later two being quite "aromatic". blink.gif

If you have specific questions about specific industries, don't hesitate to ask.

Andre
