Andre, may I ask you a question. Why did you decide not to place speed limit markers on the track. Or mile posts for that matter?

The lack of them is REALLY distracting me from an otherwise fine route.

Andre posted some of his development woes awhile back, including a problem with speed limits
(here's the thread). The art, science, and torment of route development is something that has to be experienced to be believed. You'd think that relatively simple things like speed limits would be easily incorporated, but they can cause such significant problems that they effectively make the entire route useless.

I've always relied on the speed limits in the Track Monitor, but can't do that now on the A&O. So far I've found that it keeps me a bit more alert to what's coming up along the track. As I learn the route, I'm much better able to anticipate the limits. On balance, I'd rather have the route without the speed limits than the speed limits without the route! laugh.gif

Hi Martin.

I made the decision to exclude them because of a near miss at corrupting the route. Reverting to a back up and trying again was out of the question. Track objects are quite volatile and can easily wipe out much work.

If you'll look carefully at many routes equipped with speed limits, you'll find that some don't work correctly and/or were not utilized prototypically. Further, the speed limt objects' limited abilities to be implemented in multiple track situations make for some frustration when trying to place prototypical-type speed limits.

The A&O Sub is probably more prototypical in speed limit placement than any route you've run to date. However, because I used 3D speed limit signs in lieu of the track objects, you cannot access miles ahead to see what your speed is to be via the F4. You will have to rely upon familiarity with the route.

I'm sorry you're disappointed in the A&O Sub.

This is immersion in the sim.
Ya gotta learn the route and watch for the trackside signs.
The real A&M engineers didn't have an F4, so ya hafta pay attention to the trackside signs.

Andre, I wouldn't say I was disappointed in the route, it's just that I tend to drive from the external views and keep one eye on the track monitor so I can enjoy the scenery. Yeah, cheating, I know, but I never was much of a fan of driving in the cabview smile.gif No doubt as I run more activities I'll get used to where the speed boards are and until then I'll keep a few notes of when to slow down!

As to routebuilding woes, yes, been there, experienced all of them, and probably more than most people. If you want to see what I've been struggling with for over 3 years, just put 'Highworth Branch MSTS' into Google and you'll find me.

My route threw up lots of frustrating strangeness Andre but one thing that always behaved well fo rme were the interactives... strage world isn't it?
