How long did you have to wait before the link was supplied.I've sent e-mails about this but haven't received a reply.I used paypal for the transaction.I hate to see my funds gone out in space and don't get the product. dry.gif

Cluade,
We are looking into this matter as I write this and should have something soon. We are also looking into other options for payment, as I do not like to soley rely upon Paypal.

Simply incredible! biggrin.gif

A great addition for contemporary operation, and yet another example of "patience" paying off. Great job SLW!!! rolleyes.gif

Kyle,

Just finished running your SD90's (combined with a GP60 and AC4400) up 3DTS's Tehachapi II route. How sweet does it get? rolleyes.gif I might just as well have been standing along the tracks in Techachapi proper as the big power roars by. The level of detail is stunning, especially when run with other power where visual comparison is easily made. Great job and great package--10 locos; the competition will be challenged! tongue.gif

Keep 'em coming.

Dave

Thank you everyone for your kind words! It really is nice to hear praise from those enjoying them. It is also good to hear from anyone who has a comment or concern as there is no other way we have of knowing how to improve our products.
Just an fyi to those who have purchased the locos or are contemplating it:
There have been a few items listed in these forums by Erik that I am busy trying to take care of. Once they are done we will upload version 1.1 to the slw site.
(The changes are mostly a few cosmetic things.)
There will be a notification to all who have purchased the pack and if they choose to do so, they will be able to download the latest version by simply going to the same download area.

let me add my voice to the chorus of praise. I was concerned that I might have to wait till I'm able to upgrade this machine (PII 350MHz 384MB 64MB video) to be able to run them effectively, but no problem. They really look great in my hacked cam which gives a short telephoto effect.

thanks!

i have to say even with the missing items the loco's are great the loco's go great with the Dash 9's, even sound alike wink.gif but to be real I would like to see some people model loco's like that even better with the cabs... cool.gif There are only a few things missing so what. run them as a trailing unit then.
cdebnam
Erik I have the locos now and they are looking good. Thanks for the reply.

Your welcome Claude, hope you enjoy them.

When are the new sounds due?
century242
Don,
I have an email into Kyle and will let you and everyone else know when we know something.
Sawblade5
Has there been any progress on the Ditch light bug (They need to be on top on 4300 HP versions, not bottom)?
century242
Chris
The update is nearly finished. We are fixing all the errors at the same time before we release the fix.
AlGarrison
With Dan off to the military, will the sound upgrade still be forthcoming?

BTW I love the units. I've been running UP power on Rollins Pass and I'm very pleased with both appearance and performance.

Hi Kyle .....

Can you fill us in on any progress towards the sound file upgrade?

Also what about the Ditch Light Locations the CEFX units?

CEFX's ditchlights are located on the front platform.

We know where they are located at. This has been gone over multiple times and thank you for your input.

The SD90s are Kyle's creation and last he told me, the patch was complete but he was not going to release an update until he finished working on the sounds. In addition to his MSTS activities, he works 70 plus hours, has a 3 or 4 year old and has house work to keep up on. This means his time is spread extremely thin, but he will eventually complete the sounds and release an upgrade.

I know it is nice to have money and all by working that many hours a week, but take it from someone who used to work up to 80 hours a week. It ain't worth it! It will end up killing you early or making you disabled like me. Sounds like you need a maid there as well. Hmmmm. Well, good luck to you Kyle, but trust me, once you get to be my age you will wonder why you worked your butt off for nothing. Spend as much free time as you can while you can playing with that three year old or with trains or whatever, but don't kill yourself just for the money. I have regretted all that time I spent working ever since becoming disabled. I have nothing to show for it but lost family time and aches and pains that will never go away now. Just some advice from someone who has been there is all. wink.gif

When you work for the railroad, you work when they tell you to. He doesn't have the option of going to work when he feels like it. When they call, you go, and UP has a lot of freight trains to run. It wouldn't surprise me if he he's getting 6 hours of sleep for every 12 hour shift he works. blink.gif
zhivago47
Wasn't suggesting that he could take time off when he wants. I couldn't either, but there are other jobs that don't require that much time working. Of course if he likes the work then it will not bother him as much, and if he is getting six hours sleep on a twelve hour shift then that is good too. But one can get old real fast working so much. I know. Just some thoughts on the hours worked post is all. From experience! wink.gif

I understand, I didn't mean to come off sounding pissy, sorry about that. I worked as a corrections officer for 10 years, my private time was very important me. It sounds like Kyle is loving his job, though. But you are 100% right that all those hours can make you old quick. Happy Holidays! biggrin.gif
Engineer_Kyle
Howdy guys, I'm back! No problems on the questions even if some have been repeated.... it's all good.
I actually don't work for the railroad, I work as an assistant manager at Walgreens. I have a minimum requirement of 44 hours a week and my shifts are always changing. There have been sometimes that I work about 50 hours a week, especially during busy times of the season like the holidays. I also just got back from a four day vacation for Thanksgiving which was a good break.
So with driving an hour each way to and from work, I'm gone about 54 hours a week minimum. It really is hard to balance time for work, family, and msts with the remaining hours of the week!
The other bad thing is the current release of Halo 2
Damn you Microsoft! tongue.gif
zhivago47
Aha, now the truth comes out! Caught you Kyle. Halo, huh! Hmmm! Well, I am sure that as soon as Kyle gets done playing around with Halo, you guys will get your sounds! Tsk Tsk Tsk........You need to learn to stretch the truth my friend..... ohmy.gif blink.gif ph34r.gif laugh.gif

Hello Kyle,

it's good to hear from you smile.gif

Take care.

JRaptor
I was late getting these as I have been out of MSTS for over a year, I ordered them and it took more than 48 hours to get the link to dl them!

I am going to be totally honest here; these are not payware quality locomotives! First of all there should be an installer, you should not have to manually put these into your MSTS folder, and secondly the skin is not that good, that and the fact that the sounds are aliased to the default dash9 make these locos no better than any freeware stuff out there!

I think the lighting could use some work also!

However, I do like the cabview.

Sorry if this upsets anyone but I must be honest, hopefully some of these issues can be fixed with a patch.
sstyrnol
I do not see why a payware locomotive absolutely needs to have an installer. Personally I prefer to extract the files into a temporary folder before in order to see what's actually been installed there and if needed to make the necessary adjustments needed. blink.gif

As far as the quality of the model goes. I agree with you, it is a shame that there is still no custom sounds available. As far as the model goes, you should also consider the vintage of the original model. When it first came out it was / is an awesome model. smile.gif

You should also see that the author of the model has a life in the "real world" too... wink.gif

I still use it and quite like it.
exether_mega
And I like it too !

Take care.

phil
sburr
I'll second that! They are very good locomotives, even w/o the sounds, which I'm sure Kyle will be able to get to shortly. I know the feeling of having to work long hours, coming home and not feeling like doing anything else, especially after a workweek like his.
forum1
These are great loco's. I put in a lot of time getting shots for him while I was working, but all my time is nothing compared to the amount of time Kyle put into these. I got numerous emails asking about "how is this?" "Where does this go?" "Does that look right?" To tell the truth, I think they look just fine.

Also, just my two cents, if you judge something based on the if it has an installer, than maybe you should just find a new hobby. That’s ridiculous! There fine, and Kyle put a ton of time into them.

I still use them and if you feel they look wrong, its my fault too, not just Kyle’s. I am the one that runs them day in and day out, and thought they looked good. Are you seeing something I’m not?
JRaptor
Well I am not going to sit here and pick them apart, I have been running them every since I got them so!

I think Sebastian said it best when he said to consider the age of the model, obviously there are different techniques for skinning today than there were a year ago! I think the skin lacks allot of detail that’s all.

The thing is, I can't do it, so I pay someone to do it for me, and when you pay for something you expect more than what you would get for free!

As far as the installer goes, I got just about every payware locomotive and route out there and they all have an installer so that’s just something that I have grown to expect!

Also I know that Kyle must be a very busy man as we all are, and I respect that very much.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the locos were not what I expected, and the fact that I had to wait more than 48 hours to dl them, and dl them one at a time, change the sounds and add them to MSTS directory left a bad taste in my mouth!

But I am growing to like them; the cabview alone was worth $12.00.

Regards
sstyrnol
None of the DieselsWest locomotives have installers. They don't even come with consists... Yet they are payware... As far as I know, everybody who got them likes them very much.

I think installers are just a matter of courtesy towards the guys who don't feel like messing with unpacking programs and the like. Personally I hate it when I install a couple of locos with installers and every installer feels like leaving a folder in my start menu etc... dry.gif

And what I said about the model's age. Keep in mind that when they first came out, they were FAR superior to most other models.
moose49
ph34r.gif

Just my 2cents worth don't like installers just one more thing to clean out of the registery. Don't like factory consists because they have to use default rolling stock which is no longer in my game. Do wish that everyone had a complete sound package that didn't alias to anything then I could remove the D9 and the GP38 too. Just my views on this subject.

Kyle,
just a reminder it's been a year now and we're still waiting for sound and the patch!!!!
cdebnam
Haven't heard anything on the update or sounds. Sure would be nice to know the status since others have produced the 710 sounds with good results.
century242
Last I talked to Kyle, the update was finished but he had no sounds. I had an offer from someone to do the sounds and told Kyle, he said he would work it out. Have not heard anything from him or the person doing the offering.

At this point I would say do not hold your breath. Yes I realize these were issued through the SLW website, but SLW did not receive any of the profits even though I had to pay the taxes. The whole project is Kyle's and I have been unable to persuade him to do anything about it. He did not take the critism too well and has since taken a job where he works up to 80 hours a week....someone working more than me...

Trust me when I say this, I am just as frustrated as alot of you, if not more. I offer my appologies, but that is all I can do.
cdebnam
I haven't used his locos in a long time but if and when I do I'll just alias his locos to MLTs or SLIs 710 sounds.
moose49

Century 242,
thanks for the update. Kyle there are alot of us who work many hours in a week and still find time to fullfill our promises thats all I'll say.
