As far as I know he is done with all the locomotives, he is just waiting for the sounds to be finished. But they sure do look great.

Kyle says he is still waiting on sounds when I talked to him earlier. I think it is in the not too far future since he has been working on changing a few things on the website in preparation for the release.

They're done! Keep an eye out on the site for them. I'm currently running them to make sure everything is doing well. But never the less, they will be out in the next 24-48 hours... or at least I think so.

I'm
hoping to have the completed audio to Kyle this evening. I've been busting my bottom the last couple of days getting everything to turn out well, and I have to tell you, I think they sound rather nice.

Knowing how hard Dan works and how much effort and quality he puts into projects, I'm sure "rather nice" is a very big understatement!!!

And thank you very much for your help with these beasts Dan!

Well, I would have to agree with you Kyle. Dan does some great work and glad SLW got him to do them for him. Although I am pretty much sticking to a 50. 60. early seventy era, I might just see what they look like? Haven't seen either so will be nice to see anyway. Congrats to all of the people at SLW for creating these magnificent beasts!!

EDIT: The post obviously didn't suit the masses...
FOR CLARIFICATION: I do like the work of Engineer Kyle. It looks good, it is very nice detail and I am sure, that Dan did great sounds for it. Full stop. I prefer MLT's SD90s because they are incorporated into a route with activities and all. So it is just a matter of personal preference.
Sorry for the harm done, hope this is better...

I can vouch for Dan working hard. He passed up a chance to get some audio of F-16s and A-10s, including strafe with hot guns, just to keep working on this sound project.
That's dedication.
Don't worry, Dan, you're not missing much. It's cloudless, 46 degrees and rising, with a 15 knot breeze out of the northwest. And oh, they're paying me to watch airplanes drop bombs.
heh heh heh

Hey, you didn't mention anything about bombs being dropped! Man oh man! I'll get there one of these days. But, yes, getting this audio finished with is number one on the priority list.

Looks real nice Kyle. Though not a UP fan they are done very nicely. Nice textures and a nice cab as well.
Ok, you guys, this isn't a plane forum but a train forum.
Leave Dan alone to work on trains where he belongs.!!!!!!!!

Why not??? That’s what the real thing does, and I thought everyone around here wanted things to be as close to the real thing as possible. Jeez, you all are a bunch of two faced liars...

Took the forman and I 10 minutes 3 o'clock the other morning to find the hand brake.....
He felt a bit embarassed I think for not kowing where it was, I didn't either but the ground hog with us knew how it worked.
#8139, I think.....thought it was one of the flared SD70s until I nearly hit my head on the flare.

Don't ya hate that, sounds like things are doing well for you. Glad to hear you're having fun. And always remember to duck, I hit me head once stepping down out of the cab, into that little hall way out of the engine, my conductor thought it was funny because I wacked it on the little thing that said "watch you step," more like watch you head, god that hurt.
century242
Apr 7 2004, 9:07 PM
The only thing I have to really watch my head on is the AC in some of the units....but when I duck to get out the cab doors the stupid RCO box likes to beep and in a few cases I have not stood up fast enough and it has brought the engine to a halt as the tilt timed out.
This job is cool, not what I thought it was going to be like. Some ways it is better and others not. I do like the fact that I am getting more time off and sleep than I did in my previous job.

Well, since I'm still waiting for my call to go, I guess I'll let you know that Kyle is still waiting for the sounds from Dan, then I will probably get them real quick for a check up, then as far as I know, they will be done.

You know patience is a virtue and also gets you a better product in the end. You cannot imagine how much work Dan has piled on his desk. I am sure he is working as quick as he can, but remember he does this for 3dtrains and others as well, so give the guy a break here. You will get your engines in due time.
Sounds are not a simple matter of going out and recording a sound and throwing it into the game, nor is lighting nor physics. They all have to come together and then be checked yet to be ready for dissemination. Especially if they are payware. A company's reputation is on the line if they aren't right, etc.
So, I think you should throw on a Gun's N' Roses album and have "Patience"!

I hope he remembers to eat, and that he hasn't passed out in front of his pc from famine and fatigue!

Hiya! I'm here and working as fast as I can to get the audio completed for Kyle. The delay has stemmed from my having recently started a new job. I forgot how tired you can get after working a 12 hour shift. Anyhow, I'm done with prime mover audio and have moved on to the smaller details, like adequate horns, air sounds (which seem to be pretty popular with other sets), and other 'new' techniques I promised Kyle. I love the 16-710G3 and wanted to give you all a worthy package.
Just to wet your appetites:
A clip of the SD90s at idleThe clip is in mp3 format, so remember, some quality was lost from what you'll actually hear.

Great stuff Dan, and yeah, I think those of us who live on three or four hours sleep a night should form a club and get together via netmeeting and toss down a few cups of some good and strong coffee. He he!
Seriously though, you do great work and I just don't know how you do it working all those hours and then coming home and doing the sounds. I wish I knew how to do it so I could help you out buddy, but I am not much good at anything, especially lately! Can't even reskin without having my PSP freeze up on me and lose everything!
Hopefully, and I know you so I would bet, that you don't allow stupid things like this happen to you. Keep up the great work my friend.....but try to get a little sleep. A 24 or 48 hour delay in the sounds is not going to kill any of us, but not doing so might kill you! So take it easy and just do what you can. We all understand! If not I will make them understand!!!
Take care my friend and get you some sleep. Erik understands the value of that with his new job I am sure!
