Got RW about 170 hours ago, three months and this is my findings:
1. Moving a freight car in the yard, and uncoupling it, then push it at 10mph (takes perfect timing) and stop the locomotive, I expect the freight car to coast, more than ten feet or so. In fact, I expect it to coast quite awhile. Brakes dragging? Physics all wrong, but suddenly become right when pulling or pushing it? Please your observations and comments. Charles? Kevarc? Sean? Rich (Garber)?
2. Any one come up with a structured and organized way of creating new scenarios, I have yet to figure out how these scenarios creators do it. Mine are child-like in comparison, nothing against children, just trying to advance myself. Kevarc?
3. This is more a joke and a comment to one scenario creator, Hack's fabulous F-7's in warbonnet scheme of AT&SF, an A & B unit at each end of a passenger set? I am thinking the writer is European and knows little of American RR'g. While the sound of the locomotive is totally inaccurate, I am aware that it's generic, and not from 3DTrains, anyone know of any better sounding EMD locomotives? And while on the subject of scenarios, mostly created and down loadable at T-S, UKTrains, etc., noticed we are required to have certain locomotive packs available at RW (Steam) for only $sums of money, what happened to scenarios that were free utilizing default equipment? I am thinking commissions are bountiful. Capitalism gone amok. Methinks the Wall Street gang infiltrated our hobby?
4. I do believe RW and its writers and authors (team) deserve exceptional credit for their work, especially the graphics, details are amazing. Even my 2.66mHz duo core with nVidia GTX 280. and now on second GPU cooling fan, I can feel the heat of the locomotive at times. Grunge with delight.
I am particularly impressed with their downloading policies, i.e., I screwed up one scenario, and couldn't use it anymore, so thinking I was only deleting the scenario, actually deleted the entire package (Auto tilting Train on the Hagen Seigen Route). and with a little help from the Steam members, I was able to completely re-download the DLC again successfully. Complex process initially, just needed more follow through, to my delight.
5. To be sure, at the beginning of a decent a deep grade (like Cajon) are we not supposed to apply wheel brake first, then apply dynamic brakes second. I ask because my uncle told me years ago that dynamic braking inaccurately applied could (most likely) cause derailments (bunching up the cars, etc.). Yes, I am testing my old memory cells here, but it is a point of contention. In RW, the dynamic brakes work too well, do they not? And are they not to "cut-out" below a speed (like 35mph)?
6. And on braking (wheels), seems the brakes in RW are way too slow to react, let alone actual application seems unrealistic, but I have only to compare to MSTS. Am I right?
7. On the British passenger trains, and equipment on Cajon, I hear what sounds like the clickety clack, seems about once every quarter mile? I thought these 1/4 mile tracks were welded solid, or am I hearing the gap joints (where track work can expand and contract with the ambient temperatures)? And especially noticeable going over switches and x-crossing trackwork.
Okay on English trains, their trucks consists of only 4 wheels, as opposed to Dash 9, 6 wheel trucks but only 4 wheels sounds are heard. Anyway, can one create the sounds of the only old non-quarter mile lengths but the normal clickety clack most of us grew up around? I downloaded such, must have installed it incorrectly as it only changed the deep rumbles that are associated with a train derailing for miles and miles.......
Let the voices of freedom ring aloud.
Thank you gentlemen, well in advance.
