Did you click play railworks?
Hack
Kevin, is this when clicking on the Railworks or Steam icon? The former should launch the Railworks wrapper, which will then give access to the tools and the sim.

When I click on the Railworks icon a screen comes with tabs on the top that say settings, packager, package manager, tools and docs and localisation. There is an newsbrief with a CN GE on it and the Fort Kent release date. At the bottom is an icon "Start Railworks" which I select and nothing happens, no visual of initialization of any kind. I am also logged in at Steam sad.gif

Let me also mention that there doesn't seem to be a flurry of activity on the HD indicator. How long does it normally take for the game to initialize and should there be an indicator?

Almost immediately. Do you have anything running in the background that might be inhibiting the start (no Admin rights, anti-virus, Norton Security, etc.)?

I have tried starting it from thr Steam page, games, launch and what I get is the same dead screen. I do have my AVG on Marc, I will try it with the AVG deactivated and see what happens.
If theres a failure I'll be back to pick brains. Interestingly, the people at steam have not responded to me in 3 days.... mad.gif

You can also send a note to support@railsimulator.com and see if that helps.

Kevin, my system is about 4 years old and it struggles to get into RW some times.

Having clicked on the RW icon (either on desktop or in the Steam "Games" page) it is fairly quick to get into the first screen (currently the Fort Kent), but from clicking the Railworks button at the bottom, it can sometimes be a couple of minutes or more before I get the Railworks "navigation" screen, even then it will, at times, be the frame only, without being filled in, buttons etc.

I have found the following causing slow downs or even (as you have) no starts.

1. Having had the computer on for a while, running other programs then deciding to run RW - I ideally need to restart the computer, clear RAM etc.
2. Having anti virus etc. software updating in the background - need to be other program free
3. Being logged into Steam uses a lot of processor - runs better logged off. I also close down Steam in the processes running in Task Manager, as, although you are logged off, it keeps running in the background - good, eh! Once you are in, you can also close down the "Welcome" screen in Task Manager - saves some processor!)
4. Running in full screen is quicker to load than running in windowed mode.
5. First time running, when you have added something and deleted the Blueprints - can take quite a time to rebuild them (maybe, first time you ever try to run RW as well - I remember mine took a long time to get going, but I was used to that from RS)
6. Having tried to open RW, not seeming to do anything, clicking RW again (did I miss click first time?) - seems to totally mess up my computer and nothing happens (total reboot required)

There should be some HD action and certainly some processor action (on mine, a lot). Presumably you have plenty of drive space, spare Ram etc?

Railworks status report, I turned off the AVG and made a little progress with this error,

This application has failed to start because PhysXLoader.dll was not found. Re installing the application might fix the problem.

Any suggestions, do I try to re-install the whole program or is this app available?

You can "verify game integrity" Under the steam "my games" tab, highlight railworks and click 'properties' > 'local' tab > verify game integrity.

Pleased you got going with it Kevin. Be prepared though for sometimes getting chucked out unexpectedly, especially once you start adding assets and content wacko.gif .

You have Mike Simpsons RW Tools I guess - totally essential (not least to your sanity) when using RW smile.gif
