Full Version: Fort Kent Update v1.5

This is a courtesy notice where I've been tweaking the spelling and grammar and a couple of minor fixes for the Steam version of the route to be released by RS.com when they do, sometime in March I believe. Use your receipt link if you already got the route. Below is the list of revisions:

Revisions:
1) Spelling and grammar fixes in messages and briefings
2) Replaced signal at north side of passing siding to include the Deuce Lumber siding. Some folks are getting a red while others are getting a green in scenario #1. This should fix that situation.
3) #7 Scenario would not load reporting a marker missing. That's fixed and the scenario loads normally.
4) The manual can now be viewed directly from Railwork's wrapper (that dialogue that first opens with the tabs on it) using the Tools & Docs tab.

The original release was v1.4, this revision makes it v1.5.

As for the B&A scenario pack, it was finished - but a snag came up that will delay its release for a few days.

I'm getting the red in Scenario #1 & it's red forever. Is there a fix?

Beautiful route!!

I'm gonna have to turn this one over to the pros at RS.com, I have no idea why you guys are seeing reds. I get a green it runs perfectly for me. I'm running in intermediate mode, I wonder if that's making a difference. I'm also getting a report and have seen it myself where in the free roam if you try to couple to the boxcars, you go through them. So that's going to RS.com either cause that's their rollingstock. Other than those two issues everything else seems to be fine. I imagine it will be next week before I hear anything.

Intermediate mode made no difference for me. No big deal - I'm sure it will get fixed.

Is the proper way to install the update to just point the Package Manager to the new file and install it again? Is the PM smart enough to overwrite files with newer versions?

Also, if I've modified scenarios myself, will it overwrite those changes?

Thanks!
rgarber
I think that would work and no I don't think it would overwrite scenarios. Just like any installer its putting things into proper folders, it's not looking to empty or tidy up anything so I think you would be safe but I've never tried it. It only takes a second to uninstall the route though. And reinstalling only takes a few minutes.

Hi, Rich,

Would you be more specific about how someone who has already purchased and installed the route can get the upgrade? The e-mail I received after purchase contains a link to the 1.4 version--how could this be used to obtain a 1.5 version?

Thanks,

Tom Pallen

Download the file again and install the contents and that's the 1.5 version, it will overwrite your 1.4v. Ignore my "senior moment" with the zip filename. I can't go back and change it, too many people have bought the route.

A 1.6 version is coming soon. The 1.6 version corrects some signal issues, the freeroam "ghost freight" and adds signals to enhance AI Traffic inclusion. Jim Friedland (he's the fella who added raw material loaders to the Colton & Northern) has been very instrumental in helping me to do this with some cool ideas for signaling.

Will we be sent an email when the update is available or will the link be posted somewhere?

It'll be the same link as in your receipt. It will still have the same zip filename only it will have 1.6 in it. I was going to post on the All Aboard website in the news section it was available. I'll say something here too. smile.gif

I'm still getting the red signals in Scenario 01 of the route. I looked at the RW Wiki, and here's what it says.

QUOTE
signals sometimes become stuck on red during a scenario.

When playing a scenario there are rare cases when a signal which should become clear does not and remains stuck on red. 9/10 cases are down to incorrect placement of the signal links.

Maybe that's what going on?
rgarber
I was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to get that scenario working properly. It's working now after I added some more signals to the area.

When this was first reported to me I was not getting the red others were. But after including some of James Friedland's ideas I was finally able to see what others were seeing. I think what was causing it was either during the RailSim conversion to Railworks or my own not paying attention to what I was doing, the legs of the signals weren't in the right place. blush.gif I'm not even going to try and explain what that means if you don't know. wacko.gif But it's working very consistently now after several run throughs.

There's another issue that I think is a bug with Railworks that I just saw. In testing other scenarios which involve "the once culprit signal"; you know that F3 box that shows the track, couplings, grade, etc.? Well I saw it showing the wrong signal when I was pushing cars back up to Fort Kent in the 3rd scenario. Go figure. It was reading the signal behind me instead of the one up ahead. Y'all might want to keep a watchful eye out for that cause it will fool you into thinking the scenario isn't working right when in fact if you look at the F9 (2d map) the signals are correct ahead of you.

I don't have the details, sorry, but I do know the Steam version comes with CN instead of UP as your locos in the scenarios. That's all I know folks. If you prefer to have the CN equipment, hold off purchasing the route til the Steam version is released. As for the route, it will be identical.

Awesome! I hope they have the CN stuff available seperately for those of us who got "the Kent" already.

Okay, but please, one at a time, the 1.6 version of Fort Kent To Eagle Lake is available for downloading. This is the whole route folks, so uninstall your previous version (or install over it - not sure if that's a good idea or not) and then go ahead and install the new version. This is the same version as will be released with Steam, I wanna keep everybody in sync.
