I'm looking at creating a new pack of N. American building objects for Railworks, and needed some input as to what folks here feel are most needed (besides bridges). So far, my list includes houses, lightposts, mailboxes, gas stations, and restaurants, plus a few modules consisting of entire scenes.

The basics:
- What are the must haves?
- What time periods should the pack cover?
- How many of each object should be present?
- Small town and/or big city?
- Focus on buildings or clutter?
- More trees?

Any input is greatly appreciated. smile.gif

Cheers!

-Bus stop shelters (and transit buses)
-Eras: From 1950s to today - many structures in cities are from the post-WWII era
-Two or three objects, as different regions have different 'themes' in their landscapes
-Both suburbia and cities
-Focus on both
-You can never have too many trees. Also look at bushes and other natural scenes. Many cities have tree re-growth programs, under their "Urban renewal" claim.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Vehicles; cars, transit buses, small straight trucks (delivery vans)
-Wood cross-bucks, modern crossing signals, and old rotting ones common in industrial districts
-Schools, churches, hospitals, community centers
-City centers, police, fire stations
-Old houses (Victorian, etc)
-"the corner store", older restaurants
-old bakeries, food processing plants
-newspaper skycraper
-the old forgotten train depot. A modern train depot/platforms

If I may suggest, make different packs for suburban and urban environments.

Children playing, people fishing, row boats, horses, chickens, chicken coops, shanty town building (shotgun houses, etc), junk, anything 50's and back. I guess I would like to see US detail stuff.

A trestle without sides and open between the rails, you can see water below while looks through the ties. Made out of creosote wood.

CRQ5508
A commonly overlooked detail; Fire Hydrants (Fire Plugs, or whatever you want to call them) Guardrails (for roads. Maybe the modern pressed metal ones and older metal-cable on wooden post style.) Parking meters, phone booths, newspaper dispensers, garbage cans and dumpsters. Various groups of trees from singular to large groups of mixed trees (A large area of only one type of tree looks odd for most of the US.) Various line-side objects like Relay shacks, phone boxes, and other small structures that house electrical systems (Like at crossings, rail-junctions, etc.) Various type of electrical lines from your rural telephone pole with no cross arms, and your power wire hung from a single insulator on the top of the pole with all the phone lines on the side of the pole, to modern 500 thousand volt high-tension power lines with various styles of towers. Substations of various sizes would be appropriate to see. Since cities have buildings ranging from the 1800s to the present, you could plausibly cover all eras and make the modern look correct, and use the older ones to model a bygone era. That's my two pennies.

Terrific suggestions, especially the focus on various structures from different periods (stations/platforms, corner stores and schools), and general street clutter (phone booths, fire hydrants, etc.). smile.gif

Keep the suggestions coming. thumbsup.gif

One thing comes to mind, Old Glory at full and half mast.

Billboards and signage. Especially single pole/double face lighted signage.

Another idea Marc is to let us know if we can supply any pictures or data from our geographical areas. For example living in the midwest we have hundreds of examples of old homes from typical farm houses like I live in to Victorian era homes, old gas stations, town buildings, elevators, etc.. So let us know aswell Marc if we can also be of assistance on the other sdie of the coin wink.gif

Signals and signal bridges!
PNWTransitFreak
Free/highway ramps, junctions, etc, etc...is that possible with RW? Viaducts, pipes, traffic lights. I think you make have to make multiple packs blink.gif

Marc, if I may ask, what is the status with this project? Are you still open to suggestions?
Hack
Yes, still open, just that I've been working on another pack soon to be released. smile.gif

This is not specific to a 'landscape' but rather the rail-operating environment.

Road Pieces
-Center turn lanes for both 2 and 4 lane variantion
    -Six lane variations
-Intersection pieces with multiple lane variations (great when a two (or more) lane road meets a four (or more) highway, intersection, etc)
-Lane merges (I noted that is on your "To-Do" list, per your readme)
    *yes, I actually read it*
-Bus/Lane turnouts (many towns/cities and towns have areas for road vehicles and transit vehicles to pull off the roadway)
-Four and six lane pieces with two center lane for rails (street-running freight and light-rail operations would benefit greatly from this)
-Traffic lights (particularly those of CADOT spec - the CAMUTCD is a wonderful tool for signage and various signage setups)
    -Pedestrian crosswalks
-Parking Lot (a TerrTex of this perhaps would work?)
Rail Pieces
-In-Ground Switch Boxes (alot of railroads still use them in industrial and other areas)
-Crossing/Wayside Equipment (that's a whole plethora of items)
Other/Miscellaneous
    -Expanded Street Signage
-Interactive Signs (such as Vehicle Activated Warning Devices and CMS Signs)
    -Drawbridges
    -Bascule Drawbridges
    *Both Road and Rail*

Hello, if this thread is still open then I'd like to repectfully reiterate ( it was posted above I think) that semi classical Victorian buildings feature heavily in American townscapes/ landscapes and interesting isolated Victorian buildings ( according to my architectural references....I've not been to America) I'm reminded of the Edward hopper paintings ( historical I know). Victorian buildings of course compliment a wide time period.

Yard lamps and wrought ironwork ( apologies if already mentioned).

Period Billboards as, If I'm correct, most of 3DTrains msts products were vintage era items...so if this theme is to be continued ( I hope so ) then whatever can compliment in period imagery.

Thanks again

We really need some new buildings and cars for railworks.

Cars: Railroad supply cars, Police cars and a wide range of good american pickups
Buildings: some railroad-buildings(stations, facilities), small stores, houses and churches
a few small to middle skyscrapers and townhalls (good old style) would be nice anyway

Something really lacking from what I can tell is the amount of stations. Be it small platforms with an Am-shack or bigger stations with a station house. Something else you could include along this line would be yard offices, old ice houses etc...

i think one must have is a union station.
another is the class 1 station in Dauphin Manitoba, there were originally 3 like this, one in canada(the one i want), and the other 2 in wisconson.
also a 15 stall american roundhouse would be nice.(better than the german one)
Hack
A union station based on which prototype?

Cheers!
