How compatible is RS and Vista? I tried RS on XP and did not like the results, especially after the first update. Inserting the disk to run was not my idea of a resonable sim. Also after the update the player train just stopped running, even in N8.
Hack
I run XP, but according to Vista users, RS appears to run faster than when those same folks ran it under XP. As for the disc-in-drive issue, download and install the RS Dev Tools (www.railsimulator.com), and use the RailSimEditor.exe, instead of the default RailSim.exe. smile.gif

I've run RS without issue on Vista Home Ultimate; it's stable even with the options cranked up. I haven't tried it on XP. Like everything else I imagine it depends on your hardware specs.

There is one drawback to running RS with the RailSimEditor.exe and that is, if you have installed anything extra to the sim, the program will not automatically replace the blueprint files! It appears that you must have the disc in the drive for the program to generate new bluprint files!
Hack
I'm not sure if it'll overwrite an existing Bluprints.pak, but if the file is not there, RailSimEditor.exe will certainly create it. I use this EXE exclusively and the file is always created. Since it's a cache file, I always remove them when testing.

Cheers!

I run RS on Vista Ultimate 64 bit without any problems at all.

Having 6gb of sys mem, also means that the 64 bit op sys sees all of it.

I also have 2x Nvidia 8800GTX 768mb graphics adaptors running in SLI mode.

Which can give me 115fps approx constant on some routes with max detail and 16x antialiasing & anistropic filtering.

cheers,
Mike.

I've actually tried RS on both XP (32-bit) and Vista x64 on the same hardware, and can attest to superior performance with the latter.

Vista x64 just works better with today's hardware, period. smile.gif

If you are trying to leave San Bernardino yard with the SD40-2, you have to throw the switch before it will let you leave the yard.

Nothing to do with Vista dood. wink.gif

Proper install sequence on any system is..MK1, MK2 and then the DevTools.

Mike.

Hi Mike, I'm running Vista 64 now instead of XP, Vista blowing XP out of the water. My problem is my raildriver. It is very sluggish now. PE says there program is not ment for Vista 64. Do you have a raildriver, and are you expiencing the same problem, and have you by chance a fix for it. Thank you. krellnut.

Dont look for PIE to do anything about it. They are a what it is, is what it is company.

For what it is worth, Windows 7 64 bit version runs RS even faster than Vista. I have both operating systems on a dual-boot machine and Windows 7 gives about 15pct better FPS.
