Went to Joliet Saturday to shoot some EJ&E power working the yard. Weather cooperated a little bit and the chant of 567 power was abundant. Where else can you catch SW1200's in pairs kicking around a railyard everyday. I was mesmerized by those classic EMD yard goats to say the least.

This was the first set of power just as the sun peeked out a tad.

The second set with the elusive #301 in yellow

Here the four our loitering

With the morning sun starting to rise above the east walls of the roundhouse I caught this pair of SD38's being moved on to the table

Caught this Union Pacific train running thru the yard from Indiana after receiving track warrants to the UP yard at West Chicago via the J and entering UP as in the past set I posted earlier last week.

Finally what a surprise, we ran into this westbound UP train a few miles west of West Chicago on home rails taking the plunge into the Fox River valley as the telephoto shot indicates. This was the train we shot as it rolled thru the J yard in the picture above.

I suspect that we should see the original J power for quite a while since the CN seems to be slow on painting there aquired power. You can still find IC and GT units still in original colors all over wink.gif

Yea but will the SW1200's be around for long?

And they are?

Seeing Canadian National's past trends, these will probably be sold off or scrapped. I know... first generation power. (referencing a different thread) But if that holds true, then what about CN's plethora of GP9RMs?

There seems to be quite a few IC SW's still around so maybe theres a prayer for the J units. wink.gif

Get your photo's of everything you can of the J because working for CN myself they don't fix anything or clean anything. If it breaks they scrap it and if its older power they scrap it.Don't trust CN.

There go the SD38's mad.gif
NW 1218
Just to make matters worse, CN is sending four SD38s to Superior and the WC for NO REASON today. Thankfully...the two J-Ball units AREN'T going. 654 and 662 are still on the property...and hopefully will stay...not that CN cares.
