I needed to do a test run through the Zanesville Industrial area so I loaded up the WV&O RR engine pack and headed out from the Zanesville Yard. What I'm calling the Zanesville Industrial area is that part of Zanesville that is home to the military works, papermill and starsomethingorother coffee complex that I noticed also does ice cream. Ice cream?? Anyway, here's some quick pics.
rgarber
In the previous pic I'm just reaching the first switch of the passing siding just after switching onto the branchline.

rgarber
In the previous pick I'm looking back towards the mainline. I'm just about parallel with the military works.
rgarber
The previous pic is looking forward using the Shift+1 combination which removes the cab. Looking straight ahead you can see the papermill. As you can see there's lots of vegetation. What I didn't think to show in these pics is how much urbania is all around. Maybe next time I'll remember to get those in the pictures.

This picture here is just a picture where I'm crossing a road which you won't recognize. This is about where the train begins its climb to the berm which crosses over the mainline and eventually takes you to the steel mill setback. In your version of the route there's just the three industries. Again the area is densely populated with homes and commercial stuff, I just didn't think to get pictures of those parts.

I should be moving into north Zanvesille tomorrow where most of it is already populated. And then once it is done I will begin work in the Zanesville Yard.

Rich,

This is all looking better and better!! Will be just about an entirely different route by the time you get done with it.

This will be like coming home... I still remember how extensively I used the Ohio River route in my early days of MSTS... biggrin.gif

Cool cool!

There's alot to what you say Paul because very little of what was in the Ohio Rail route originally is in this upgrade. I did want to keep some things about the original intact such as the locations of the towns and their basic size and if you will, their character. In my opinion I do believe this upgrade will bring about the look of the route as it was originally intended back in late 2001 when I conceived the idea of the route. The bulk of any route back then was predominantly made up of default objects. And while newer objects were slowly making their way into the library, most of them were 70's+ based. Originally Ohio Rail was meant to be a steam route. But I lamented that the steam engines we had back then weren't very powerful for pulling even modest trains up the grades of the route. So we pushed the steam off to the side and concentrated more on transition to later generation diesels. As the upgrade stands now you can easily envision just about any time period (except early steam) except for those very fashionable flat people (I like the green plaid lady flowers.gif ) and the vehicles. Aside from those two facets the route has a very different and up to date look than the original.

Just as an example I took a route editor shot of just one section of Zanesville. I say this because a simple 45 degree turn would show another densely packed area as well as doing an about face would also show another densely packed area and even with that you still haven't seen all of Zanesville yet. But I don't take too well to route editor shots but this is the only way I can show you how dense the scenery is.

Well Rich, after wetting my pants (F.O.O.F.) and ruining my keyboard (drool); I must say that I am very much looking forward to the "New Bodiddly"!! In the meantime, I ran a few trains and grabbed a few screens on the "Old Diddly", which I would like to share with all of you. 1st off is a WV&O loaded coke train leaving Byesville Yard N in the snow after just having been re-crewed. By the time we cross the viaduct approaching Zanesville, the snow has stopped and the skies are clear. Next is a OR&W coil-steel train leaving Zanesville for who knows where. And lastly, we come to the present, with a BNSF loaded coal train from western coal fields; heading for the mills at Zanesville.

Let's do a quick look at Zanesville north. If you'll remember, you come out of the Zanesville Yard and then through a tunnel and right after that there's a yard. We're taking the switch that sends us southward through the northside of Zanesville. This is the more citified part of town with a skyline full of taller buildings. The first pic is coming into the station. I kept the default since at the moment I don't have any big stations like this.

rgarber
This next picture is just a little bit further than the last one. We're actually looking north back through the station.

rgarber
This maybe a big city but there's lots of foilage which can, you know..., spoil the view? Maybe not spoil the view but it can block out parts of the big city just beyond it. And that's no different with Zanesville.
rgarber
In this next and last pic for this picture session some of the big city moments of Zanesville peeks through the foilage.

I've just about finished up the city of Zanesville though I have some touch-up work around the rollingmill that needs to be done and the Zanesville Yard too. Next week I'll scoot on over to Cambridge and begin to work on it. Cambridge will be the last of the big "work" that I need to do. I still will have a few small towns and Byesville to do as well.

Rich,

I know that these are progress and PR shots, but you are torturing all of us. As good as the original Ohio Rail was, this is 10 times better!!!!!!!!!!!!! I for one am really looking forward to it and I have already put aside the money for it.

Thanks Paul. smile.gif Always good to hear words of encouragement.

Today I'm working on the Zanesville Yard. One thing I noticed about the yard is for you guys who are railroad museum enthusiasts, the Zanesville Yard is perfect for such a thing like our Spencer's just up the road from Charlotte, NC. You can do one of those 5 to 10 minute rides type things because the yard has its own built in oval of sorts without it being an oval (meaning msts oval issues). I gave it a try and took the following three pics using the WV&O RS3 (which needs some texture fixing I saw) and some box cars.

In this first pic we're coming past the round house. I'm only moving about 5 to 10 mph.
rgarber
In this second pic the rs3 is past the round house and coming upon the repair & maintenance building. Now I don't want to frighten anybody but the track only went halfway into the repair facility so I lengthened it. It won't have any effect on activities, I'm sure of it.

You might be asking why in all the pictures I posted I haven't replaced the coaling towers, water towers or fueling facilities. First, I don't have any pickup objects for my own since my routes since Ohio Rail have all been more or less a branchline or shortline. Second, I'm not sure how doing so would effect the track database. So for now I'm playing it safe by leaving in the originals.
rgarber
Last pic. Moving past the maintenance shed and onward. This little trip help me to spot an error which I fixed. Back to work I reckon. Nice to come out of the cage once in awhile. wink.gif

It is looking good Rich.

I have a week off next week and I am looking to repaint some of my newer models in OHR and WVO colours. Canton and Cumberland standard. It may overcome the texturing problem.

Obviously, the link I posted is not working. Will try again.
