Hi All:

Actually tried to do some route work tonight, but my nVidia FX 5700 keeps crapping out when working in RE. It's done this before, but it seems to be getting worse.

I would like to hear some input on video card options that would be more stable (and hopefully pick up a few gains). I don't want the "latest greatest", but would like to have a card that is better than what I currently have.

Other considerations of my system:

Win XP Pro
AMD Barton 3200 CPU
1 GB RAM

Suggestions?

Andre,
There has been a very useful discussion in this regard recently on the TrainSim forums. Follow the link and look at the address that Derek gives:

I'm still chugging along with my trusty old ATI Radeon 9800. I'm sure you could pick one of those up fairly cheaply yet.

If AGP - go for something Series 6 like a 6800GS or 6800 Ultra - $100 - 200 range
If PCI-E - get a 7600GS or GT - $100 to 200 range, or possibly a 7900GT or GTX - $200 to 300 range, depending or how much you want to spend

Browse www.newegg.com for some of the best hardware deals around or check prices on any hardware at www.pricewatch.com

I run a AGP 6600GT I got off newegg new for $145, but thats been almost a year ago now

ATI doesnt wag my tail anymore, they've played second fiddle to Nvidea for over 2 years now

I'll let an ATI user fill in details on ATI's offerings.

Gidday Andre,

Another 5700 will get you to the same place.
Its all about dollars, and its not about MSTS, there will be others soon (12 months)

So rather than think MSTS, think 5 years down the track. (sorry about the pun)
