After a period of burn-out from working on coupler calculations, I spent the evening evaluating what needs to be done to finish up my sound package for the steam locos.
There remains one loco's chuff sounds to "equalize" so they blend at different rates. I have been given some shay rod sounds that I needed to get the proper level of noise for the shay (the rod sounds are frequently louder than the chuffs!), and I need to redo some of my rod engine rod sounds. I also have a couple of more whistles to loop.
The package will contain at least 4 rod locos and one shay, several whistles, some wood car sounds, some different coupler sounds, decent cylinder (@#*!) sounds, and a single phase airpump recorded (by Andre) so close to the loco that one can hear the steam going up the smokebox.
A couple of the loco sounds are from tapes Andre recorded on the Eureka Springs RR from the top of the tender while the loco was running. These should have been a "gimme", but ambient noise ruined many of the chuff sequences and it has taken a lot of work to isolate the most usable ones. The great virtue of onboard recordings is that there is no doppler effect to deal with. Other sounds are from my collection taken mostly over the years on C&TS charters with Jim Trowbridge. There is a k27 and I haven't decided whether or not I have enough usable sounds from a badly out of quarter k36 (488) to work with. So the locos are a mixture of Stephenson and Walshaerts valve gear.

I was burned out with you on the couplers, Bill. As you've said elsewhere, "that's a square we won't circle ... " The sound pack - parts of which I've tested - is stupendous and sure to achieve a higher time investment to joy ratio.

Thanks for the compliments Steve.
