I have been commissioned to build the fleet of steam and diesel locos for Rich's Cumberland route. I have done some research on the net but I need some pointers.

What colour scheme did the diesels carry while steam was still around? Any other information about the period would help. What period are we talking about anyway. I guess the 60s

Please help a mere limey to whom Cumberland is a beautiful part of Northern England

Steam still existed in the 1950's, but was gone by the end of the decade. The following is an illustration of the original cream and black L&N scheme:

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the help. I know the FLC colour scheme was based on the L&N but was not sure when that was in vogue and when the pale blue version came in. That makes life easier for me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

That narrows down the time too 1950 to 1959 ish. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Nice looking locos. I have been tempted by them in the past BUT they will give me too many ideas on how to improve my own (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif)

Dick, I think the time frame would be as you stated, the latter fifties and early sixties. And Marc has given you shots of the main paint scheme for that time from for the L&N, one of my favorite Railroads, by the way. And congrats on getting to do these. I know you will do a bang up job of it. And I am sure there are others here with greater knowledge of the L&N than I, who will head you in the right direction.

Since you based your FLC scheme on this scheme, you should have no problem with it at all. One of the best paint schemes for an American railroad ever to grace our tracks, IMHO. Good luck!! I know you won't need it, however!

Many thanks for that snippet of information. Do you know when the pale blue and yellow colour scheme came in?

Don't forget that there was a short period of time ( '60-'62) that the road reverted back to a simplified all black scheme for freight units. I guess there was a shortage of masking tape at the time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) !!!

Also, while this may be a bit out of your era, the L&N purchased several Alco FA's, S2's, and RS2's from the Lehigh and New England in 1962, when the L&NE went out of business. These units wore the L&NE scheme of black with several white stripes (Without the "fried egg" logo and the Lehigh and New England lettering on the side), and had yellow Louisville and Nashville lettering and numbering on the side of the locomotive.

Hi Dick!

What about ssw9662 former LNE-locos for Cumberland? Would be nice be able to run them
at least at Cumberland as
Andre Ming had to chancel his LNE-project due to time-reasons...
I want to see the old LNE stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)
Would be the finest thing to see (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

LNE?? Now if you mean LNER that would be different. Even LMS or GWR would do too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Hi Dick,

Lehigh New England RR (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
LNER would be also fine
but would be in good old Britain (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

The LNE-engines overtaken by the L&N I`ld
really love to see as it hurt my heart very hard to
see Andre Mings LNE project been chancelled. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/crying.gif) (IMG:http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys2/bawling.gif) (IMG:http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys2/00009154.gif)

Do you think we can talk about? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (IMG:http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys2/klatschen.gif)

I love this alco stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

I am addicted to this S-2`s this RS-3`s and FA1´s...

An old hard-core-LNE-fan,

Christian

P.S: Would also fully meet the Era Rich wants to recreate...

Hi Dick!

Do you think you can deal with Gaetan: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) http://www.3dtrains.com/forums/index.php?s...?showtopic=8281
His LNE set will be great! Riding the engines 2nd hand in
Cumberland even greater....

Give it a thought... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
