Time to start a new Ozark Northern thread, the last one was getting too long.

Tonight I've been crying me a river. biggrin.gif

White River, that is.

To kick off this update thread, up first will be two pics of another area that I've almost finished. (Still need some background work, etc.)

NOTE: I've intentionally left the pics full size so you can CLICK ON THEM and fill your browser screen with them. This will give you somewhat a feel for the view you'll get within the sim.

Wow!

This way a river must look like Andre! My compliments for such a fine work!

Did you lay the rivers like streets in MSTS or did you just paint them on the
terrain? Your technique looks very interesting to learn wink.gif

Hi Christian:

I don't like the way painted terrtex loses detail up close. Painted terrtex works best for non-descript features, such as a dirt road, etc, OR features that will be seen from a distance.

You are looking at a series of transfers that I have developed from my original photo library.

Hi Andre!

Ok, hope I checked out how you did this wonderful river wink.gif
Means you copied not your reworked photgraphs onto the terrain texure.
But you created from your fotos a kind of "river-kit" like building apreproducing track or road pieces... Including the riverparts into terrain as seperate objects will keep their detail rate very high which would get lost if you paint them just on the terrain.ace.
Right?
For our Sandy River we also need lots of creeks and your creek-building way seems to be the most promising one for very good results, you must know.

Real great work!

Hi Christian:

The actual creek is comprised of a series of texture transfers. Are you familiar with using transfers in RE? I also use water "plates" for pools/larger bodies of water that are static objects and thus NOT tied to the tsection.dat, as would be the case if they were made to "snap" in place like roads/track.

Once the route is on your hard drive, a quick look in RE will make it easier to understand.

Thanks for the kind words. biggrin.gif

Getting better and better Andre - love the logs & rocks and, in that second shot, the way the river sems to drop down.

Without any doubt those are the best river shots I have seen in the sim.

Thanks, Rodster. biggrin.gif

"...in that second shot, the.... river seems to drop down."

Sharp eye! That's because it does drop down several feet. I hope to use that some more in various places when the terrain offers the opportunity.

Sure SAR704, I'll take a compliment anyway I can get it! laugh.gif

Just wondering how you were able to see the track texture good enough in the above two pics. Your eyes are much better than mine! blink.gif

Appreciate the encouraging words! cool.gif

Great stuff Andre. You just keep getting better and better at this. I am not ready to dig out my kayak, although that sounds like fun, but ready to go diggin for worms and throw the old line out there and ketch one o them there big uns!!! A nice big fat catfish or somethin' laugh.gif wink.gif

Really looks great Andre. Looks so real, that I would probably stop the train and stare at the scenery for awhile. You keep it up my friend and you will have the finest looking route out there!! At least I feel like I am stepping back in time and into the picture when I see what you are creating there. And that is all that matters to me. The simplicity of life captured so eloquently! What more could one ask for? You know that would be a great route just to sit in one of those hand cars that you pump up and down and just watch the scenery go by!!! Hmmm. Has anyone ever created one of those things? And would it be possible to use in the sim, somehow? I think that would be really cool? What do you think Andre? Is that something that would be possible in this sim? A hand pumped cart or whatever the real term for it is. You know, like in the movie "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou"? I would love that! thumbsup.gif w00t.gif teehee.gif thumbsup.gif

Is there an option to make the water animated, and possibly fish jumping out or am I asking for too much?

Jumping fish? Sure, no problem!! blink.gif

Thanks to all for the hoots and hollers. The water is sloooooowly coming along laugh.gif

Actually, tonight I've been taking a break from placing water. Created the textures and built a little handcar shed. Here's a quickie pic...
